| Iurro was born in Banska Bystrica, Czechoslovakia (now in the Slovak Republic). When he was three months old his family boarded an old Bristol Britannia bound for Havana, Cuba. According to a family story, he started drawing when he was only three years old. By the age of ten, already back in Czechoslovakia, he was twice awarded a prize in a national children's drawing competition. During his elementary school years, Iurro attended after-school art classes for youth taught by the distinguished Czech artist Petr Exler. As ofen happens with children, Iurro interests changed during in his teenage years. Later he studied history and Czech lingustics at Palacky University, Olomouc. However, art never fully disappeared from his life. During the political changes in former Eastern Europe, Iurro used his artistic skills to draw and paint political posters in support of democracy. As a student he extensively traveled through Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, and Switzerland. After receiving his MBA degree in 1997, Iurro went into the business world, where he worked in business development, accounting, and auditing. His path back to art began a couple of years later. He took evening and weekend drawing sessions at Fleisher Art Memorial, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and Lafayette College. After receiving positive feedback on his first group show in April 2006, Iurro decided to become a full-time painter. |
